Care

Care, in real folders. He never dies.

Toastah’s bowl and litter box are folders on your Windows desktop. You stock one and scoop the other. He eats on a clock even if the app was closed. Nagging gets louder. Nothing dies.

Tamagotchi is a trademark of Bandai. Desksquattaz is not affiliated with Bandai.

His bowl is a folder

The Cat Bowl folder holds dry-food files. The alarm trips when the count is 0. It clears when the bowl has 3 or more units, so a partial restock is enough. He eats on a 6-hour meal clock. Meals he missed while the app was closed still count when it opens again. Buy dry food in My Shop. It arrives in My Stash. You move the files into the bowl. He does not grocery-rescue dry food for you.

That is the whole feeding loop. No hunger bar you have to babysit in a menu. The files are the meter. Delete them and the bowl is empty. Put three back and the alarm stops.

So is his litter box

The Litterbox folder fills with litter clump files. The alarm trips at 5 clumps or more. Only an empty folder clears it. Deleting one clump is not a scoop. He does not scoop. The file text says to delete it to scoop, and to empty the folder to clear the alarm. If the folder is deleted, the clumps can be restored. The mess is yours to finish.

Kibble, a bank, a shop

My Bank is a local kibble ledger. A food floor of 15 kibble cannot be spent on unlocks. My Shop lists 21 items, from 2 kibble to 60. A rare fake vet bill takes 7 kibble when the balance can cover it. Help Wanted pays kibble for five shifts: dishes, putting icons back, a still-life, copy duty, and catching the laser. His own work shifts also pay. Kibble never buys Cat Plan.

Spend kibble on food, toys, nonsense, or on unlocking a kibble-priced game or world. The cash price, when one exists, is separate and one-time. The bank does not leave the PC.

Streaks and achievements

Food streaks and litter streaks are tracked at 3, 7, 14 and 30 days. The achievement list in the app has 18 ids. Titles include “Minimum Viable Parent”, “Scoop Sovereign”, “Monthly Bowl Contract”, and “Invoice Accepted”. They are bragging. Missing a day does not kill him and does not wipe a level, because he does not have a level.

What happens if you forget

Nagging has levels: ok, soft, and critical. At critical hunger he may mime eating. He looks after himself, resentfully, and tells you about it. He never dies. He just tells you about it.

Petting has rules

Double right-click the idle cat. Zones are head, back, belly, paws and tail. The first roll can land neutral, liked, or annoyed, and then the mood sticks. Cool-off is 90 seconds. Like chance on the first roll is 0.8 for the head, 0.65 for the back, 0.2 for the belly, 0.55 for the paws and 0.4 for the tail. The belly is the trap. A single right-click opens Commands instead.

His own life

He takes trips by time of day: forest, grocery, a friend’s house, the street, cat islands. Souvenir files show up when he comes back. Mischief includes moving icons, with an hourly cap, and icon ransom: a desktop file is copied into My Stash and a backup is kept. Footprints fade. He can hijack Now Playing. A browser raid opens a page and scrolls it. Plant and Vakoom are free roommates. Reddex, Raver and Mu are paid. Friend cats visit locally. You can watch free. Joining a visit needs Cat Plan.

Questions

Is Desksquattaz like a Tamagotchi?

It borrows the idea of feeding and cleaning up after a pet, and does that with real folders on your Windows desktop. It is not a Bandai product. He never dies.

Can my desktop pet die?

No. If you ignore him he looks after himself and tells you about it. There is no death and no level to lose.

How do I feed my desktop cat?

Buy dry food in My Shop. It lands in My Stash. Move the food files into the Cat Bowl folder. The alarm trips at 0 units and clears at 3 or more.
